The #1 Reason You Aren’t Seeing Results
Hey there,
I hope you are doing great and had an awesome weekend. I spent the weekend in Houston presenting at a Boot Camp Conference with Exercise Etc. I had a great time and luckily had great participants who really walked away with some valuable information.
One topic that continued to come up in each session was who don’t some people see great results? Obviously this isn’t an easy question to answer. There are a number of reasons why some people just aren’t getting as good of results as others. More often than not though I see one major flaw in exercise programs. There just isn’t enough overload on your body. Overload is the most important aspect of your exercise program. Think about it. If you are working out at the same intensity or load every week, why would your body need to adapt? There is a reason why strength training has been shown to be so beneficial. When you stress the muscle enough it has to adapt.
Exercise is a form of stress on the body. It is a good stress, but it is stress none the less. When we perform strength training our muscles are put under stress. If the stress is high enough hormones will be released to signal the body that they must adapt, in this case grow bigger, in order to continue to handle this stress. If we use the same weight or the same intensity week after week we will see diminishing results. Look at you own program. How long have you been doing the number of sets and reps that you are currently doing? Some people stay with the same program for years, yet they expect to see more progress. One workout will only get us so far. We need to learn how to safe overload our bodies to see continued progress.
This is my number recommendation with clients or anyone who asks for my opioning in that matter. Track your workouts in detail. If you have been doing the same weight or the same number of reps for more than 6 weeks, it is time for a change.
I know what you are thinking though. “If I lift too heavy I am going to bulk up.” I hear this over and over again. Even my own wife will have this argument with me. But this is one argument, probably the only one, that I know I am right. Next time we are going to go into this topic in even better detail to explain why women won’t bulk up and how heavier strength training can lead to even better fat burning.
Have a great workout.
